Like with regular components, advanced components are often a bottleneck to a colony.It is highly recommended to keep 2 advanced components for when you can build a fabrication bench, which allows you to make both types of component yourself. Each cell can be mined twice, turning from yellow to red before depletion. If you play on a Linux machine (like I do) there is a known bug where the tiles turn pink and opaque (instead of green and see through). Put the drill on the green tiles you wan't to mine. When placing a deep drill it can fit in as little as a 1x2 space - one cell for the drill, and one cell for the interaction spot. Constructing or clicking any deep drill also displays all deposits, if a powered scanner is in place. Clicking the scanner reveals all deposits (cells highlighted yellow) on the map.
